Palmerston North Green Drinks started in June 2020 from a group of friends interested in environmental and sustainability issues. Animated by values such as social commitment and environmental awareness, the group aims to provide for networking opportunities for its members in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
We hope to expand and strengthen this green movement in our beloved Palmy community.
Bron and David, owners of the local low waste grocery store "Be Free Grocer", gave interesting tips on how to reduce our waste when shopping, how to do our groceries low waste and gave us an exclusive tour to their store to see the behind the scenes of their business.
Tim from City Slickers Honey explained how he is improving our environment by placing beehives in local gardens and then sell honey with a real local flavour. We learned about his journey to be as sustainable as possible from the care of the beehives to the packaging of the honey and other products.
We had a lovely picnic by Manawatu River to talk about our interests and what we would like to learn/achieve/improve in 2021.
David from "We Reuse I.T" explained us how his business works with e-waste recycling. We were joined by other 25+ greendrinkers and enjoyed a great evening.
Over 30 greendrinkers joined us to lear how the Awapuni Recycling Plant works and what can and can't be recycled in Palmy. Ariadne Santos, PNCC Waste Operations supervisor was our guest speaker.
Over 25 greendrinkers joined us to listen to our first guest speaker: Toni Grace. Toni prepared an interesting presentation about UN's Sustainable Development Goals followed by group activity and discussion.
Our first meeting! We had a great response with over 20 greendrinkers joining us to shape the format of the meetings. We brainstormed together and came with topics we would like to discuss and learn about.
